Pete Carroll To Move Into Advisor Role With Seahawks

In a groundbreaking announcement that signals a new era for the Seattle Seahawks, the legendary Pete Carroll, who has etched his name as the winningest coach in the franchise's 14-season history, is set to transition from head coach to a strategic advisor role within the organization. Seahawks Chair Jody Allen, in a statement released on Wednesday, revealed the amicable agreement reached with Carroll after thoughtful deliberations.

"After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor," stated Allen. "Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community. His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward.

"Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family."

This significant move comes on the heels of the Seahawks concluding the 2023 season with a 9-8 record, falling short of the playoffs for only the fourth time in the Carroll-Schneider era since 2010.

Carroll's coaching legacy with the Seahawks boasts an impressive 11 winning seasons out of 14, clinching playoff berths 10 times and securing five NFC West titles. The pinnacle of this success was in 2013 when the Seahawks, under Carroll's guidance, secured their first-ever Super Bowl victory with a dominating 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Carroll continued to lead the Seahawks to another Super Bowl appearance the following year, making them one of the select few teams this century to reach consecutive Super Bowls, alongside New England and Kansas City.

Under Carroll's tenure, the Seahawks also held the distinction of leading the NFL in scoring defense for four consecutive seasons from 2012 to 2015, a feat unmatched in the Super Bowl era. Carroll concludes his coaching tenure with the Seahawks with an impressive 137-89-1 regular season record, earning him a spot alongside coaching great Bill Belichick on the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team.

Before his impactful stint with the Seahawks, Carroll had a storied career in the NFL as an assistant, defensive coordinator, and head coach with the Jets and Patriots. His success extended to the college level, where he spent nine seasons at USC, amassing two national championships and four Rose Bowl titles.

What sets Carroll apart is his commitment to a unique coaching philosophy, rooted in building relationships and maintaining a positive culture. Even before coaching a single game for the Seahawks, Carroll emphasized his desire to prove that "you can't have fun coaching football at this level and still compete like crazy and win." A decade later, he leaves a lasting legacy of success and a culture that prioritizes individual well-being and genuine care, making him an iconic figure in Seahawks history.

As the Seahawks embark on a new chapter, Carroll's transition to a strategic advisor role ensures that his invaluable leadership and championship-building expertise will continue to influence the organization's trajectory positively. The Seahawks express their gratitude, and Pete Carroll remains not only a coaching icon but a cherished member of the Seahawks family.
